Practice From Divots!

Want more distance from your iron shots without worrying about increasing clubhead speed? Then change your angle of attack. A slightly descending blow on the ball with a mid- or short-iron decreases the effective loft of the club, producing a penetrating trajectory and 5 to 10 extra yards. You can groove this by hitting practice balls out of shallow divots.

Place the ball in the middle of the divot and address the ball with your normal setup. The only way to make solid contact is by driving the clubface down into the back of the ball. From a normal lie, it should be easy to create this better angle of attack.
