Keep the club on path for a few extra yards! Just because your nickname isn't the Big Bopper, you shouldn't give up on finding those few extra yards that will help shorten your approach shots from time to time. There's no need to spend hours bulking up in a gym..... you're much better off tweaking your technique. To put a little more punch into your drives, focus on pointing the butt of your club toward the target line as you begin your downswing. This will ensure that you get your swing on the proper path to 1.) Deliver the clubhead to the ball on a shallow, inside arc; and 2.) Create a "flat spot" through impact. These are the two keys to hitting the ball longer and more consistently. It's essential that the butt end of the club points toward the target line, however, and not toward your feet, which indicates a steep and weak angle of attack. If you're unsure of your position, ask a friend or your pro to take a look at your swing. Better still, have one of them video your rip so you can see it yourself. |
